Backstage , 2006
Playing with notions of both architectural and personal façades, Pippa
Koszerek concealed three video works and a cardboard railway line behind the
gallery's false walls. Playing with the audience's expectations she used
binoculars to take the viewer's gaze outside of the exhibition space,
encompassing the real railway line outside within the installation. Another
pair of binoculars, attached to an MDF train, guided the viewer's gaze
towards a video of the decaying décor of a house, exhibited at the far end
of the gallery. Flashing red lights were sited on a window across the
gallery space, referencing the train line and creating a balance between the
works in the space
